How do I schedule my road test?

It’s easy! Just call 919-770-3112 and we’ll schedule you our next available test date/time.

Eligibility

  • Must be 16 years old and under 18 years old
  • Have held your level 1, NC Limited Learners Permit, for no less than 9 months
  • Logged a minimum of 60 driving hours
  • Test date can be scheduled on or after eligible date on permit
  • Must be a resident of North Carolina

What to bring on your test day

  • Your physical NC Learners Permit.  A copy or picture will not be accepted.
  • A parent or legal guardian must accompany the student
  • The signed contract. This will be emailed once you have registered
  • Your 60 hour driving log
  • If you wear corrective lenses, you must wear them for your test.

CARY DRIVING ACADEMY cannot and does not guarantee a student will successfully pass the Road Test based on the NC DMV guidelines

Road Test FAQ

Do I still need to go to the DMV?

  • Yes, you will need to submit your successful Road Test results and have your picture taken. 
  • You do not need to make a DMV appointment.  The process is streamlined so you can immediately go to the DMV to complete the process
  • Test results are valid for 180 days from test date

Is CARY DRIVING ACADEMY certified to administer the NC teen Road Test?

  • Cary Driving Academy operates with a high degree of integrity, respect and professionalism
  • Cary Driving Academy is licensed by the State of North Carolina, Insured and Bonded
  • All instructors are highly trained, patient, friendly and certified through the State of North Carolina

Can I do a walk-in Road Test?

  • No, we cannot accept walk-in or same day appointments
  • Appointments can be made as quickly as a 36 hour notice based on appointment availability 

Where does the Road Test take place?

  • The Road Test will begin and end from our office, 1003 High House Rd., Cary.     

Can I use my own car for the Road Test?

  •  We will only be using Cary Driving Academy cars to administer the Road Test.  All our cars are Ford Escapes.

What happens if my Road Test is unsuccessful?

  • No worries!  Just make another appointment for a retest.  Note: a 48-hour wait is required between tests.

Is there a fee for the Road Test?

  • Yes, the initial fee is $100 which includes administering the Road Test, use of Cary Driving Academy’s vehicle and all paperwork to take to the DMV to complete your level 2 process.
  • Each Road Test retake is $50 

Is there a cancellation fee?

  • Because test times are highly sought and appointments fill up quickly, a $30 fee will be assessed for all cancellations and no-show appointments.
